Earlier in March 2020, the SF Agency significantly reduced its passport operations to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect the agency workforce and general public. Expedited passport processing was limited to cases involving life-or-death emergencies. Currently, applications previously submitted are being worked on at a leisurely pace.
As of Monday, August 17, a total of 6 passport agencies and centers are in phase two, and 13 agencies and centers are in phase one of a three-phase reopening plan. SF is in phase 1. More info mentioned in a previous article here. Phase 3 is what we’re waiting for.

You can apply at an acceptance facility or renew by mail. Both may take up to 6 months. Or wait till Visa Network can submit- keep in mind we don’t when this will happen. We are monitoring the situation and will continue to update.
Stay Safe!
